Head of IT & Compliance

We are looking for an experienced Head of IT & Compliance, responsible for setting the strategic direction of the business with regards to computing systems and data management with a view to helping the business achieve its goals and for ensuring that those systems are robust and reliable. Connected to this, they will also be responsible for our compliance with regards to data and risk management. This role will have management responsibilities and will report directly to the CFO.

The role

  • Ensure that the Department exceeds performance expectations in managing and maintaining a robust and reliable IT platform
  • Continually review technological developments and gauge their significance to T&H in all areas of the business
  • Ensure adequate robustness and security of the T&H website and, working closely with the Marketing team, deliver any enhancements to the site
  • Be accountable for T&H’s legal responsibilities such as copyright of software and font usage
  • Oversee all project development and personally project-manage business-critical initiatives.
  • Liaise and negotiate with external suppliers of IT equipment, outsourced services and maintenance contracts, and manage these relationships, ensuring that they remain reliable and cost-efficient
  • Manage the safe and efficient flow of data into and out of the business and any other communications
  • Understand and address the business requirements of all departments in order to determine their technology needs, and manage communications to the business regarding IT
  • Review and submit an annual IT Budget and be ready to explain any deviations
  • Line-manage the IT team and the Office Manager, and identify training needs wherever possible
  • Manage the company Disaster Recovery Plan
  • Ensure that the business complies with all regulations relating to data and health & safety
  • Carry out an annual Risk Assessment for the entire business, liaising with Heads of Department, for presentation to the Board
  • Formulate any policies and procedures that might be necessary in order to ensure compliance with all the above points

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Proven experience as Head of IT or similar role
  • Experience in analysis, implementation and evaluation of complex IT systems and their specifications
  • Sound understanding of computer systems (hardware/software), networks etc.
  • Experience in controlling information technology budgets
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills
  • Outstanding communication abilities, both oral (particularly being able to explain very technical developments to people without technical background) and written (being able to write clear and concise policies)
  • Preferably, experience in Health & Safety and GDPR compliance
