Children’s Editor

We are seeking an experienced children’s book editor to work on our award-winning list of children’s art books, illustrated non-fiction, picture books, activity books and pop-ups.

Based in London, the Children’s Editor will work with colleagues in the New York, Melbourne and Hong Kong offices to deliver books for an international market and for co-edition publishing, as well as for our highly esteemed museum and gallery partners.

You will manage book projects independently from proposal stage through to delivery. This will include copyediting non-fiction books, ensuring texts are engaging and accessible for the target age range, and working with freelance fiction editors to ensure picture book texts are satisfying page-turners and a joy to read aloud. You will liaise closely with Design and Picture Research to create high quality content and to achieve an integration of text and image on the page. You will liaise with colleagues in our New York office in the development and Americanisation of all children’s titles. You will be the main point of contact in the children’s team between International Rights, Sales and Marketing to ensure each department is supplied with the most up to date material and information. There will also be the opportunity to contribute new series titles ideas and new book proposal ideas.

We are looking for someone with a genuine enthusiasm and passion for children’s books and an understanding of children’s needs and interests across different age ranges. Solid editorial experience, either as an Assistant Editor or Editor, in children’s publishing is essential for this role. You will have impeccable copyediting and proofreading skills, a strong attention to detail, effective time management and prioritisation skills, and a proactive approach to diversity and inclusivity.

We are currently working remotely, but this role will transition into our Central London office when we reopen.
